I'm glad that course worked for you. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge experience is what I was referring to when I mentioned "white knuckles."

Twenty-five years ago, my husband and I were scheduled to fly to China from DC, so that he could try a case. I was terrified of flying at that time. I heard that US Air had a course on "Fearful Flying" at National Airport, which I promptly signed up for. During the 8-week course, we had a pilot and a psychologist lecture us on how safe it was to fly. For the duration of the course, we received a relaxation tape, which we were to listen to at least once a day (56 days) until we were able to relax and fly. Remember, you can't be relaxed and tense at the same time! It actually worked for me, so that now I love to fly. But, I still won't drive across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for love or money.

Absolutely terrified of heights. Glass enclosed elevators? No way. Scenic overlooks? Not a chance. I don't need treatment. I'll just stay bebind closed doors!

In Texas one measure of pride, I'm told, is wearing cowboy boots so pointy they could kill a roach in a corner.

I'm fine with nature-made heights, but I have less faith in things that humans made.

Interesting piece. I have an odd phobia. I'm uncomfortable in large, cavernous indoor spaces like museums. I like cozy....but not too cozy lest the claustrophobia kick in.

Everybody’s got something….some just may not even know about them yet. Good to be aware of the things that limit your life…..and decide wht you can and will live with.

As always, a serious subject tackled with your witty, dry sense of humor. I loved it! As for me…roaches (especially giant ones in South Carolina and Shreveport!), and yucky spiders.

I quote Woody Allen to explain my own fears, "I have a very low threshold of death." Perhaps some phobias don't need to be cured or eliminated, it's Nature's Way of reminding us to be cautious. (Just don't show me puppets, that's where I l tend to lose it.)

Exactly! Thank you.

Thanks, Amy. Those southern roaches are no laughing matter. A roommate in college assured me that a cockroach in New Orleans had been indicted for rape.

Just marionettes, or hand puppets too? (i.e., shall we blame Howdy Doody or Shari Lewis too?)
