Great article & info, Don. I've never heard of ikigai but will check out these links and see if I can figure out what gets me out of bed (besides coffee and Substack).

Nice spotlight on this concept, Don. I offer to flip the order of things a little and start with considering what the world needs and work back from there. In "world" I mean anything that calls you to it, whether personal, your family, community, country, the world, the universe. If the calling is strong and you do not have all the skills, it's an opportunity for learning and growth in the service of that calling.

Thanks for that perspective, Osnat. I like that way of thinking about it.

I think people (young people, too) find it intimidating when they think they must rush out and find a passion for something. I once was introduced to a retired federal judge and his wife, who remarked sadly "Poor Tom has no passions" Hopefully, she meant his interests. That's how I understood it, anyway. :)

Like I tend to follow my instincts about I want to do (beyond lying slug-like in bed). I keep reading and keeping an eye out for what grabs me, and when I sense an actual project that makes me want to leap into action . . There it is. This is going to sound self-serving, for which I do apologize, Don, but I absolutely felt that way when I learned about Substack, and cried "Eureka!"
