Congratulations, Don, on your courage to upgrade after 12 years! (And most of us would like to borrow Pablo, please.) I believe resilience and curiosity are our best friends in old age. I suspect you were testing us to see if we really read closely, so let me be the first to spot "fingers" is (ironically) misspelled in the 2nd paragraph. Type on, type on....you'll never type alone. Happy New Year!
Hey..I relate. Since I am still working I get to stay pretty current with technology (:in school). A few years ago it was a shock to find a wireless mouse. (Yes,I still prefer a mouse.) But my wife has an MAC and I prefer a PC ….so sometimes if she asks a question it takes me a minute to change my brain operating system. I do hate it when the computer asks me if I want to perform updates ( phone too)…my fear continues to be that things will be lost forever and not in the same place. But I do it…often times reluctantly and usually get back on track.
Things re so much easier ….remember when we had dial up internet…..
But there is also more…..I’m so amazed that when I can’t figure something out ( how do I share my calendar with someone at work) I just google it and voila!
Thanks for contributing this to the conversation. I do appreciate improvements to technology, although sometimes I feel like I'm running uphill trying to keep up with them.
Hah! Same thing here, when the spacebar wouldn't add spaces. You take that one for granted, the empty space between words. Couldn't figure what the problem was until a 25-year-old friend came by with HER keyboard and sure enough it wasn't the computer, just the filthy keyboard! Thank goodness for troubleshooting youth!
Hey Don - welcome to the world of women! Who have no choice but to be resilient. And it's incredible, but yes, I just upgraded my MacBook Air after 12 years and the upgrade with new monitor I added, was a f***ing nightmare. So I empathise, and everyday I tell myself to put my big girl pants on and move on. But the new laptop is sensitive as well and drives me nuts. Merry Christmas!
Keep your snacks away from your computer or buy one of those air blowers for key boards. you could always dictate! I also noticed a misspell - "finders" for "fingers"! was that test? Brilliant!! (I couldn't tell if that was a joke or an actual whoopsies😎. another enjoyable read!
Don, I love your stuff. I think I might need a new keyboard, too. Lately I misspell everything and have to actually look at the keyboard in order not to do so! Getting older is rough, my friend. But resilience (which my newsletter used to be all about and, to a degree, still is), is crucial. Keep going!!

Thank you Wendl "Eagle Eyes" Kornfeld. That was not a test. I suppose a new keyboard can only go so far...

Yes, how would we ever get through this world without them?
Brilliant writing and oh so relatable and refreshing!
Many thanks, Isabel!

Chrissie, I'm glad it's not just me. Thanks!
Welcome!
Never mind resilience. The real take-away here is: Upgrade your computer every three or four years...not every 12!! :)
You make a compelling case.
😂😂😂 I loved this!
Thanks so much!

You can file it among the whoopsies. Thanks for these sensible suggestions.

Thanks, Susan. Keep on bouncing on.
