I heard that this quote was attributed to a clergyman long ago. "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born, and the day you learn why." We need to live quite a while before we can determine the latter date. I was 64, and the timing was perfect.
Thanks for the inspiration. Don, the satisfaction and happiness with what you are doing at this stage of your life comes through loud and clear. I feel like I have bloomed a couple of times in my life and I am looking forward to blooming again. Why not?
I didn't have a clue until I turned 55. My interest in spirituality and, in particular in chaplaincy, could not flourish when I was young and had not experienced loss. I thought it was my own failing, but really it was the area I chose to explore. Had I wanted to be a gymnast, my life might have unfolded differently.
As a fellow Late Bloomer, I identify with every word. Just set this up on Post Planner to share next week, and I hope it brings many new followers to your wise essays.

So true! Thanks for sharing that, Wendl.

Thanks, Alice! I'm inspired by your notion of becoming a perennial.
Agreed on "late bloomers". The cult of youth is so tiresome for everyone, including the young.
Hoorah!!
Late does not mean never. It just means at your own speed. Lovely, and I'm always saying, "Your race your pace."
You know any late bloomers? If not, here's a list of 10 of them . . . . https://secondwindmovement.com/late-bloomers/
Wayne, thanks for adding the list.

Susie, we are all blessed that you chose spirituality over gymnastics!
You better believe it. I am one clumsy girl.

I appreciate that so much, Stella!
Thank you, Kathleen!
Maybe your dream of being a newspaper reporter wasn’t your true life work, but arranging words beautifully is. Such a wonderful essay!!
