Best move I ever made, retirement. Still, I remember approaching a friend about teaching an adjunct class, afraid of having to design every day. Glad I didn’t get that job!
Great column and thanks for these reading selections. Transitioning to a different career later in life showed me that I have trouble with that type of change. Nice to have this advice to help me prepare for retirement.
I love the comparison between the stages of transition and the changing of the seasons. With all my children now living elsewhere, I’m in the midst of a big transition. To keep the seasonal analogy going, I’m feeling the winds of change. Thanks for another great newsletter.
Don, your words have another favorable effect for those (including yours truly) experiencing the retirement transition. You publicize that the sometimes unfavorable sensations and dynamics of this life stage are common. I expect that many of your audience feel some relief that their untoward feelings are widespread and not individualized.
As you and I previously discussed there are a couple of specific pleasing Tapas portions I and many others could enjoy. One is having a social network. It could come from many activities such as volunteer groups, education, and just ordinary meal or coffee dates. Another important Tapas portion is being physical. It can be achieved with frequent light walks or full gym workouts, yard work, house work, sports, and more.

Me too. We're all better off. And now look at you: your poetry is the text for a class!

Thanks, Elizabeth. Glad it has relevance for you.
Another edifying article, Don. Henceforth, I’ll think of myself as “coming into my own.”
Yeah, we can start a rock band called The Late Bloomers.
🎶 Sweet mystery of life at last I’ve found you. 🎵

Thanks for your feedback, Rosemary. I'm looking forward to the big unveiling of TGOHS next month.

Looking forward to more from you,

Thanks for these additional thoughts, David. I'm so glad the tapas idea resonated with you.
Your experience proves that the transition isn't always smooth, but can be worth it. Thanks for sharing that.
