I have never had Covid. Really. And I also really don't want long Covid- and yet I don't mask anymore. In '22 blood work confirmed I had no non vaccine provided natural antibodies. Am I lucky? Blessed with some crazy immune system? My dad had the flu in 1918- do I have epigeneticslly transferred immunity? It is a gamble for sure and the other shoe will likely drop one of these days
Sorry you went through so much to get those masks out of storage, and glad to hear you're back to the land of the living. I dug mine up recently and am trying to remember to wear one. Unlike 2020-22, when it became habit, now it's definitely a conscious effort--but like you say, the little COVID buggers don't much care.
Good for your wife, and how foolish of you with the Covid numbers rising daily. The Covid virus likes winter! Hope you’ve tested negative and can join your family after learning your lesson. Oh, and thanks for your vulnerable sharing; I hope it is helpful to many.
I got Covid for the first time in November. It was mild (no respiratory symptoms at al) and I cleared the test after six days. But....not long after I got RSV which lasted for three weeks and was really awful. I had resisted the vaccine for that on the grounds that I was tired of vaccines (covid, flu, shingles...). Stupid is as stupid does.
Thank you, Voice of Reason! Four years into Covid, I got it, despite ALWAYS wearing a mask on subways, buses, and elevators. Even warm tea hurt my throat; coughing broke blood vessels. Not eligible for Paxlovid, alas. The germs are out there, asking people to please be mindful of others and your own potential vulnerability. Thank you and good luck!
Don, I hate you. But I am also very sorry you got sick. Still no mask for me but your words will be sitting on my shoulders and making me feel stupid until I get sick. So in a way I’m already stricken with the microbes….

I hope your good luck holds.

They most assuredly do not.

Thank you, Rachael. I've tested negative, reunification is complete, and I've learned my lesson.

So sorry you got it, and glad you got over it.
I hope you are feeling better. All I can say is you are married to a wise woman.
I wonder about people who have had COVID 2 or 3 times? Yes, I have heard of that. Are there long term health implications?
At our house HUSBAND 2. WIFE 0.
It seems that your husband also married a wise woman.

Sorry to hear you got it and couldn't take miracle drugs for it. It's a pain.

We all gots to make our choices.
Excellent essay. You may have lost your sense of smell, but not your sense of humor! Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, Kathleen! I am happy to report that on the 9th day I came up negative on the home test, and the process of reunification is now complete.
Hooray! Happy weekend (or whatever we retirees call these days!)
We should not generalize the situations, there are a lot of people who haven't had vaccines or masks and enjoy full health at any age!
Really?
I think it's called Russian roulette, Don. 😂 Btw, it was a train that got me, I'm pretty sure.
Dear God, you're under house arrest too! Get well soon, Don. xo
My house arrest, unlike yours, had a limited duration.
Oh please.
