I looked at your check list...no debts, few responsibilities and so on...and realized I, too, could check off those boxes. I can probably take some small credit for that, but honestly overall I think we underestimate the power of dumb luck. Recently, a close friend reminded me that my satisfaction might not be the same if I suffered from ill-health as she does. Then a second friend pointed out that I might not be as sanguine about spending some time alone if I lived alone all the time as she does. Sobering.
