I love this newsletter, Don, selfishly because it echoes everything I believe in. “Play”, especially “child’s play” (let’s change that to “play for all”) is one of the central themes in my own work. It’s a challenge (sometimes a feat) to find fun in dark times, but if you’re able to rediscover old and new joys in whatever storm, they can be lifelines, not to mention cheaper than therapy ... well, depending ... pastimes can be expensive. Anyway, before I veer into waffling, I’ll sign off. Thanks again! (Off to have some fun!)

Thanks, Rosemary. I aspire to be sometimes at work but always at play.

We needed this post, all of us. There's so much despair out there that the reminder to have fun is of infinite value.

My husband was Professor and Chief of Molecular Pathology at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans. The organizational culture there reflected a “Mardi Gras spirit.” Medical student applicants were often relieved when he shared that perspective during interviews.

My own view is that “fun” involves interactions around personal or collective pastimes that enhance quality of life on a societal level. We may enjoy independent activities that enhance the common good through joyful influence. Similarly, “team sports”

as it were, have a readily apparent impact on community.

It’s all about connections.

If I didn’t have such a fun place to work and a happy boss I would have fired him !!

I can relate. That's how I went from self-employed to self-retired.

Don, I think this is how and why we became friends so quickly 😁

Exactly. Obviously it's a perspective we share.
